sirf syllabus s kuch nahi hota, the questions in the topics could be even jumbled to answer, wherein u will have the options and a limited time to solve and clear the cut-offs. believe its the most toughest part when u will c that even a logic mistaken leads to one of the given option..

Syllabus is quite confusing. It’s not an easy syllabus. UPSC has given some large topics in a few sentences. It’s not a self-explantory syllabus as earlier was. Saying this as an easy syllabus is actually a silly comment.

Changing is always in favour of serious candidate. Previous syllabus was burdensome and went to fevour of such candidates who didn’t deserve .

Hi when this UPSC notification for 2011 exams is expected to be out…any body has any update on the decision on age as there was earlier a proposal for reducing it to 25 years..

i think at the first luk it luks like ok, we can say that it can be an easy syllabus, but what abt the pattern of questions? are we going 2 be tested at the same level as the mba students r tested. bcoz csat has quite a similar syllabus as of mba exams.

i think this syllabus is IAS combined with CAT.i dont see it be a easy one.now,it is skill+labour unlike labour in previous ones.I hope that the the age limits will remain the same.

Don’t take it so lightly. It is difficult to answer light questions compared to the fact that it is easier to answer the difficult questions because we prepare for those. So friends be serious and get ready take on the challenge…Good luck to all..

Bandhu, syllabus reading marne me jitna chota lag raha hai …..isme trick bhi utna hi hai . But i believe , designer of this syllabus is really brilliant and you believe or not they have giving chance to every one to compete. Bhailog aalochak na ban kar ye socho ki isse karna kaise hai ….sabki issi me bhalai hai nahi to critics hi bante rah jayenge. Anyway ….Best of luck to all

i think its only modern histry bcoz even in the earlier sylaabus there is the same line as in the current one(iindian history and indian national mvmnt).so i thnk its only mod his………

It seems easy for a while but consists vast range. we need to more focus to crack the exam. It is purely based on understanding not learning facts

I read the whole thread, saw mixed response from eveyone but overall ppl are happy that syllabus has become easier compared to previous prelims!!
A good sign of IAS committee changing their stance on recruiting managers/administrators rather than crammers, technical ppl who cant face the administration!! Long awaited change has finally come of age!!

Well from my experience, where I have cleared a few competitive exams (JEE, CAT), as far as I know the shorter the syllabus, more difficult it becomes. To cross check–check out Psychology/histroy and Geography syllabus. Geograpahy’s syllabus is long but it defines the scope (well within boundaries) but psychology/history syllabus is short but one needs to cover too much ground to get hold of the subject.

Also I feel the easier the paper, higher the cut-off leading to tougher competition. So the easier/shorter the syllabus, more and more we need to prepare to succeed!!

sir i want to say only one thing that the students from the Arts and commerce stream are badly effected by the new CSAT, and the Science students get the benifits. As we know that there is a huge scope for the science students- they can join NDA, Airforce, Engineering etc, but the students of arts stream have only the oppurtunity to compete and to do better in the Civil services only. so if possible then kindly knowledge abt the age limit and a new pattern question on my Email add- aman_Sarkar2006@yahoo.com.

Hi All……Nothing is so easy and if you think this about UPSC than you might be taken for a toss in examination hall. THOUGH THEY WONT SET A PAPER EXACTLY ON CAT PATTER…….WHAT UPSC NEED IS TO CRACK THE CORE i.e. CANDIDATES MUST KNOW THE BASIC FUNDAS. This is one of the stages of long exam and not the only paper to clear UPSC…That UPSC also know…..

I would urge you all not to loose hope since UPSC will not judge you on the CAT pattern. This time also most of the aspirants have same kind of thinking we use to have in school days i.e. rather than sticking to Basic/NCERT we were hell bent upon reading more and ignoring BASICS. UPSC will frame a question on Basics of Maths and Reasoning (Though questions could be easy but solving it with short formulas and within quick time is the ball game). Please see below strategy I can share with you:

PAPER I
Your strategy should remain the same since this part deals with the GS we had in the previous pattern (No Change). However, more stress should be given on Current Affairs pertaining to National and International level.
Inclusion – Environmental Ecology, Bio-Diversity and Climate Change – For this please subscribe for the publications of Ministry of Environment and Forest since detailed knowledge is not required and you are not doing a graduation course in this.
PAPER II
1. Logical reasoning and Analytical ability
Analytical Reasoning by MK Pandey (Top Seller for clearing Bank PO and Other Competitive Exam). This book typically deals with the reasoning based on LOGIC, ASSUMPTION, VERBAL & NON VERBAL. Just command over this book and practice it and you will feel the difference while solving model test papers.
2. General Mental Ability & Basic Numeracy
Its Math’s this time and you need to have good knowledge of approx 30-35 chapters including Usual Math’s, Data Interpretation, Data Sufficiency, Charts and Graphs etc. This all can be found in one Book that again is the Backbone of for competitive exams (conducted by Govt) i.e. M Tyra.
3. Decision Making & Problem Solving
What we know is that under this section candidate will be tested on Ethical and Moral decision making capability. For this a specific book has not been published yet. However, you can refer to the books which might put you under a situation to assess the criticality and requirement with Demand of the given time and come out with decision. Just think from the perspective of rational decision and you will head towards right direction to find the answer.
4. Comprehension/ English language comprehension skills
Now coming down to the Language…….This time emphasis has also been given to the language which is Global. Since aspirants from rural background would also sit in this exam so UPSC will never set a paper which becomes impossible for a person who hails from Hindi Medium. It is going to be a test of language keeping Grammar and Compression at hand. Just work on Synonyms, Antonyms, Arrangements/Rearrangements of words/Phrases, Error recognition, Fill in the Blanks and most importantly Paragraph reading. You might have to enrich your Vocabulary for that matter. Just go on with 1 good book Govt based competitive exam (Bank PO, SSC, and Railways etc) and 1 high end book for this language e.g. for CAT preparation to be on safer side. There is nothing wrong in studying more words and exploring more on language because Math’s might not be there with you 20 yrs down the line in future but English would surely be.
Hope this might help you who seek information pertaining to the same. If problem still persist we can share the info/thought again.

Regarding age……Age is still the same i.e. 30 for General. Age reduction and changes in Mains have been recommended but still under consideration……but as of now it’s the same.

Implementation of CSAT really a good decision as it will provide a same ground to every aspirant of CS. It will definitely work and help to bring out good talent with good supervision and leadership skills. It will prove that a good leader must not be a subject expert whether he should have a moral values in his ideas and accurate decision making power.

I like the newly implemented system(CSAT)as it gives the aspirants an opportunity to think,not just to study. Though the syllabus may seem easy to the aspirants but i tell you my dear fellow competitors think twice before commenting coz after all this exam is not such a dumb thing. it is going to test the real qualities of a person required to be a true administor.

Age Limits

(a) A candidate must have attained the age of 21 years and must not have attained the age of 30 years on 1st August, 2010, i.e. he must have been born not earlier than 2nd August, 1980 and not later than 1st August, 1989.

(b) The upper age limit prescribed above will be relaxable:

(i) upto a maximum of five years if a candidate belongs to a Scheduled Caste or a Scheduled Tribe.

(ii) upto a maximum of three years in the case of candidates belonging to Other Backward Classes who are eligible to avail of reservation applicable to such candidates.

(iii) upto a maximum of five years if a candidate had ordinarily been domiciled in the State of Jammu & Kashmir during the period from the 1st January, 1980 to the 31st day of December, 1989.

(iv) upto a maximum of three years in the case of Defence Services personnel disabled in operations during hostilities with any foreign country or in a disturbed area and released as a consequence thereof:

(v) upto a maximum of five years in the case of ex-servicemen including Commissioned Officers and ECOs/SSCOs who have rendered at least five years Military Service as on 1st August, 2010 and have been released (i) on completion of assignment (including those whose assignment is due to be completed within one year from 1st August, 2010) otherwise than by way of dismissal or discharge on account of misconduct or inefficiency, or (ii) on account of physical disability attributable to Military Service, or (iii) on invalidment.

(vi) upto a maximum of five years in the case of ECOs/SSCOs who have completed an initial period of assignment of five years Military Service as on 1st August, 2010 and whose assignment has been extended beyond five years and in whose case the Ministry of Defence issues a certificate that they can apply for civil employment and that they will be released on three month’s notice on selection from the date of receipt of offer of appointment.

(vii) upto a maximum of 10 years in the case of blind, deaf-mute and Orthopaedically handicapped persons.

iam an engineer so the Paper-2 looks easy …but i think Paper-1 syllabus is highly volatile ……UPSC is never easy but its beautifull.

csat syllabus is very good and i think it will truly analyse the intelligence of candidates…

Age limit has not changed but dont take syllabus too easy rather it is exhaustive but very very interesting and a combination of bank PO exam and civil services exam . If you have prepared for bank PO/MBA exam earlier this syllabus would really be fantastic

age limit as as-usual for 2011, but who are at the age of 28 ..or more , make sure to give ur best shot , maybe age limit can be dropped in 2012 .
well upsc looking for best candidates , coz 30yr is more enough , one can complete phd before any arts subjects and can give , so i think it can drop upto 27 or 26 , for 2012 . good luck for exams.

• Status: A candidate, admitted, will be considered to be a full time candidate provided he/she is not doing any other course and is willing to undergo training on full time basis. Any one engaged in any other course, when or if admitted will be treated as a part-time candidate

though the UPSC seems to have given chance 2 most of us 2 appear 4 civil services xams with a new hope with its concise syllabus…however i feel that it wud b as tough as it was b4 ..not in terms of lengthy syllabus but in terms of quality and ability evaluation

1: age limit…….?
2: eligibility criteria……?
3: date of exam…..?
4: fee of application form…..?

Hiii, age limit for general category is 21-25, last date for application for prelims MAY,2011 is 1st week of FEBRUARY,2011.
Most probably, xam will commence frm 20th May,2011.

actual this exam is developing the aptitude level not atitude level this pattern is realy gud for younger ….

Its really pretty good to have a change. I think if a model paper of this exam is released that would be good and very helpful too. i wana know the age limit for csat exam and also the exam date and month 2011 to be conducted.

hi i also going to prepare for the csat i just want to 9 that what about coaching centres is they really give the study matirail? is there any benefit of join the coaching centre & kindly also suggest the any acadmy for that.

CSAT ka syllabus dekhne me easy hai.but real complication exam time me lagega .there is noting easy or tough. all depends on individuals

pattern of pre exams change only , age limits are same as previous 30 years to general applicant.

I THINK AGE LIMITS ARE STILL SAME AS PREVIOUS, 30 YEARS FOR GENERAL APPLICANTS (4 ATTEMPTS), OBC. 32 YEARS (6 ATTEMPTS), SC/ST 35 YEARS (UNLIMITED ATTEMPTS).

START STUDYING INDIAN HISTORY , WATCH OUT ALL NCERT BOOKS FOR HISTORY FROM 9th STANDARD TO 12th STANDARD. ALSO WATCH OUT CURRENT AFFAIRS , READ “THE HINDU” NEWSPAPER. THE HINDU IS GOOD ONE.
